We developed a low profile 12VDC to 120VAC inverter using wide bandgap semiconductors and planar magnetics.
Two colleagues and I designed a 1kW inverter as our undergraduate capstone project. The schematic and PCB were designed in Cadence OrCAD and Allegro, with extensive simulation performed with PSIM, SPICE, and MATLAB during the design phase. At the heart of everything, a Texas Instruments C2000 micro-controller controls it all.
As the lead designer for the project, designing this unit was a very fulfilling (albeit challenging) experience.
